In new ownership since 2018 and recently revamped, this well located, well-run and fairly priced hotel makes a good base for exploring the wider region and nearby sections of the Wild Atlantic Way. While dubbed the "Nashville of the West" for its big name country music events, at quieter times it’s a relaxing place to stay - and its greatest asset is the friendly and welcoming staff, who always do their best to make sure everyone is happy. Families are made especially welcome and, as well as plenty of entertainment in the leisure centre, there’s a host of things to do nearby. The National Museum of Country Life Ireland and Turlough Park House near Castlebar is a must-visit, for example, and there are dedicated family attractions such as Graune Pet Farm and Play Centre (18km), which offer a range of activities for different age groups, while a trip to Achill Island makes a great day out - including cycling along the Great Western Greenway. Good food too, with children offered half portions of adult dishes as well as the usual goujons and pasta, and they do a very nice cooked to order breakfast as well. All round this is place that may well surprise you.
